Step 1: Login to a Melbourne Polytechnic computer

Your username is "s" and your student number, e.g. s1234567

Your default password is your date of birth YYYYMMDD, e.g. 19990704

Use this help page if you have any problems.

Step 2: Open a browser and search for Australian Standards

Go to SAI Global's Australian Standards website.

If you know the Australian Standard number, type it in Document Number on the top left.

Otherwise, type a keyword in Document title or keyword.

Two things to remember when you are going through your search results:

  • Get the most recent, up-to-date version of the Australian Standard
  • Get the full Australian Standard that includes all amendments.

Here's an example when searching for 5601.1. The top result, AS/NZS 5601.1:2013, is the full standard including all amendments. The other search results are the amendments by themselves.

Step 3: Register or sign in with SAI Global

When the View Online or  Download button is clicked, SAI Global will ask you to register or sign in.

If this is your first time using SAI Global, click New Registration to enter your email address and create a password.

SAI Global will then send a verification email. Remember to check both your Inbox and the Junk mail folder for this email.

Step 4: Download and Open Australian Standards

Now that you are registered with SAI Global, you can download as many Australian Standards as you like.

Remember:

  • On campus computers, you can only open the Australian Standard in Adobe Acrobat.
  • If you try to open the Australian Standard in your browser, you will see an error message.
  • Australian Standards are locked to the computer or device you open them on.

Step 5: Open Adobe Acrobat and sign in

Melbourne Polytechnic computers already have Adobe Acrobat installed.

  • Start Adobe Acrobat and sign in with your student email address.

Your student email address is "s", your student number, and "@student.mp.edu.au", e.g. s1234567@student.mp.edu.au

  • Choose Company or School Account.
  • Enter your Melbourne Polytechnic email address and password.
  • Tick Don't show this again and select Yes to stay signed in.

Once Adobe Acrobat has been opened you must disable global object security policy.

To do this:

  1. Select Edit from the top menu
  2. Choose Preferences
  3. Select JavaScript from the left-hand column
  4. Untick Enable global object security policy
  5. Click OK

Click the File menu and Open, and go to the Downloads folder to find the downloaded Australian Standards.

If it doesn't appear, try exiting and starting Adobe Acrobat again. (There is no need to sign out of your Adobe account.

Step 6: Printing

To print click on File and Print:

  1. Choose the printer
  • bw-global-1 to print in black and white (8 cents per page or side)
  • colour-global-1 to print in colour (15 cents per page or side)
  1. Click Preferences to choose single sided or double sided printing.
  2. For Australian Standards with hundreds of pages, we recommend 2 Sided Print.

Remember: You will also need to add money to your student card to print.

Step 7: Log out of the Australian Standards website

Melbourne Polytechnic has a limited number of user licenses for SAI Global, so please Log Out when you have finished downloading.
