Purchasing a computer

If you are thinking about buying a device make sure you do some research.

Choice Magazine is a major consumer advocacy group to turn tu when considering purchasing goods and services in Australia . It has an very good guiding  web site that will give you some important things to think about.

Melbourne Polytechnic is not endorsing or do not have any commercial links with Choice. We just like the way they have put together this guide.

Make sure you bargain hard if buying from one of the retail chains. Most brands like Dell and Apple also have online factory outlets where you can pickup some bargains.  These can include cancelled orders and factory refurbished laptops at reduced prices. Sites like Statice will help you find out the price of a device.

Computerbank

If you are on a Health Care card and cannot afford a new computer consider contacting Computerbank for a cheap refurbished laptop. This volunteer run organisation can provide a cheaper alternative. Devices run Linux which these days is a very suitable alternative for studies  that do not require CAD of Adobe Creative Suite. Find there website here http://www.computerbank.org.au/
