FindIt: Refine Your Search

Helpful information to get you started using the library's search tool, FindIt.

Consider your keywords

What if your search didn't bring up the results you wanted?

First, use the filters to narrow down your results.

If that doesn't work try adding more or different keywords to your search term.

  • More keywords will narrow down the results list.
  • Different keywords will bring up a new set of results.

How to use filters

Filters can be used to refine your list and make the results more manageable. The filter menu is at the top of the results screen, just under the search bar.

At my library

This limits the results to online and print items that are available with your library membership. The "At my library" option is automatically selected for all searches. You can untick this to discover resources not currently accessible through the library. These can then be requested through interlibrary loan.

Peer reviewed

Journal articles that are peer reviewed have been examined by experts in the field. The process of being peer reviewed is a form of quality control that journal articles go through before being published.

Catalogue only

The catalogue only can be used to limit the results to items that are held by the library. This includes print books, journals, music score, encyclopedias and DVD's.

Date Range

The date range filter can be used to limit results to a specific time period. This is especially useful if you only want to see the most recent resources on a topic.

Source Type

This is useful if you are looking for a specific source type, like academic journals or ebooks.
