Staying Safe Online for Students: Home

Online safety is about maximising your security when using the internet to reduce the risks of criminals obtaining:

  • your money
  • your identity
  • your passwords or passphrases

Protect your personal and private information particularly when using online banking, social media, or whenever you are asked to submit information online.

Melbourne Polytechnic Password Requirements

• Password must be a minimum of 12 characters in length (includes spaces)

• MP strongly recommends using a passphrase instead of a password

• Passphrases are easier to remember and more secure

• Example passphrase “sun blue cat” (do not use this exact phrase)

Important note for personal devices:  If you’re connected to wifi@MP on your phone, laptop or tablet, once you have changed your password, you’ll need to forget the network and reconnect using your new password. Follow this how-to guide by ICT.

Head to the Student Password Self-Service page to change your password.
