Originality report

  • Once you have submitted a paper to Turnitin, an originality report is generated. 
  • Originality reports provide a summary of matching or highly similar text found in a submitted paper.
  • When an originality report is available for viewing, an icon will appear in the report column of the assignment inbox.
  • Originality reports will usually be created in 5-10 minutes. Longer papers will take a little longer.
  • You can resubmit a paper up to 4 times and receive the report within a few minutes.  If you are resubmit a paper a fifth time, the report will not be generated for 24 hours.

Referencing guides

Melbourne Polytechnic adheres to two styles of referencing:  Harvard Style, and APA Style. Check with your teacher to find out which style is appropriate for your studies.

How to submit a Turnitin assignment in Moodle

On your course page click the assignment name. It will have a Turnitin symbol on its left hand side.

This will open up a page called 'My Submissions'. Click on the link Submit Paper.

A pop-up screen will open. On this screen you will be required to :

  • Choose whether you are submitting your assignment by File Upload or Text Submission. NB. Your teacher may preset this field for a particular type of submission

If you submit by File Upload, click on the document icon shown.

Select Upload a file, Browse for you assignment, give your assignment a name & author and then choose 'Other' as license type.

  • Enter the name of your submission
  • Drag and drop your assignment into the area provided.
  • Tick the box that indicates you have read & understood your obligations.

 

Click Add Submission at the bottom of the pop-up once you are satisfied with your entries.

Once you have submitted your assignment you will be directed to a screen which is a digital receipt. On this screen you will be given a Turnitin submission ID and an extract of your assignment.

 

You can return to your original submission page by clicking on 'close', located in the top right hand corner.

You can view and print your digital receipt by clicking on View Digital Receipt on your submission page.

 
You can print your receipt by clicking on Print in the bottom right hand corner.

You will also receive a submission confirmation to your Melbourne Polytechnic student email account.

 

Viewing your assignment's originality report

Originality reports ( or similarity reports) provide a summary of matching or highly similar text found in a submitted paper. The percentage is a score of your assignments match to other sources.

To view the originality report for your assignment, click on the icon next to the similarity percentage.

You will be taken to the Turnitin Feedback Studio.

Any matching text will be highlighted.

The Match Breakdown on the right hand side shows a breakdown of any matches found on your paper. They are listed from most similar to least similar.
