Employing journal-Level metrics as points of comparison can provide useful evidence on which to base a journal-selection decision.

ADDITIONAL IDEAS FOR CHOOSING A JOURNAL TO PUBLISH YOUR RESEARCH

FIRST ... ENGAGE IN SOME BACKGROUNDING

  • Think about the areas/themes of the article you wish to publish
  • You might even source some potential titles from the references you've listed in your article's bibliography
     

SECOND ... ONCE YOU HAVE A LIST OF POSSIBILITIES

  • You have the metrics option ... discovering statistical information about various aspects of your potential journals 
     

THIRD ... EMPLOY A DATABASE (such as Google Scholar)  FOR LOCATING ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Enter some key words that describe the issues captured in your article  eg "student poverty in Australia"
  • Look at the results to see where other articles on this theme are being covered
  • Look at the highly cited, if you like
  • Take any of the Journal Titles you have discovered, then test them out to learn more about them - examine their finer details
