With the traditional journal publishing model, reader access to journal content is achieved via payment of subscription fees.  
Conversely, reader-access to OA journal content is entirely free (no subscription payment involved)

• Traditional publishing has evolved (over several centuries) to successfully support the creation and distribution of high quality academic literature

• Traditional journal publishers maintain highly-developed publication and distributions systems

• Traditional journal publishers have the capacity to offer researchers a variety of publishing options, including Open Access
