FindIt: Refine your search

Helpful information to get you started using the library's search tool, FindIt.

Refine by type and date

Refine your search to make the results more relevant and manageable.  Review results and check the number of results retrieved.

You can begin by choosing the type of resource: full text (online), catalogue only (items held in the library), or scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals.

Change the date range of items retrieved by either entering the dates in the spaces provided, or moving the bar across.  After you have input a new date range, the results will automatically update.

Refine by source and subject

For further refining, you may wish to select the source type, or format of items you wish to retrieve, for example only academic articles or newspaper articles.  This is also useful if you wish to exclude particular source types, for example book reviews or magazines. After selecting one or more items, the results will automatically update.

To search by subject, click on the Subject heading and a drop down list will be provided.

Follow the same procedure for Publisher, Publication, Language and Geography, or Limit by Database.

Note: different options will be presented depending on your results.
